Sonia Brakes BSc Hons Occupational Therapy

Sonia Brakes

After working as a Senior Occupational Therapist in a regionally acclaimed community stroke team, the need for an independent post-stroke community therapist became clear. I have now set up my own highly specialised service to address this need. The service offers a wide range of evidence-based therapies for low, medium, and high-level functioning arms and hands. This includes running home-based Constraint Induced Therapy, Mirror Box Therapy and Motor Imagery Programmes. Bespoke activity plans are also created for clients to work on at home. Clients may also face other issues following their stroke such as visual changes, cognitive problems, or fatigue, which are addressed during therapy.

People face a challenging road during post-stroke recovery, and I am here to support you through this journey. I believe that education, perseverance, and motivation are key during rehabilitation. I have great first-hand experience in creating a therapy environment which promotes these qualities, supporting people to maximise their recovery potential.

I also have practice in working in multiple settings with various client groups and my experience to date has been vast, including medical, surgical, brain injury and mental health experience.

Referrals are accepted from all health care professionals, Case Managers, GPs, and self-referrers. Sessions are run both face to face and remotely. This means that if you live outside the local area, you can also use this service. I am happy to travel to some selected areas if required.
