Occupational Therapy (OT) helps children facing developmental delays or sensory, motor, or learning difficulties to improve their everyday skills through assessment and treatment tailored to their age. A specific type of OT called Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) therapy uses a fun, play-based approach in a practice setting to challenge and help a child's brain better process sensory information like touch, movement, and sound. By engaging in child-directed activities with specialised equipment, the brain can reorganise itself, leading to lasting functional improvements, and therapists follow specific guidelines to ensure the therapy is delivered effectively.
ASSESSMENT PROCESS: • Initial telephonic interview: Discussion with parent/guardian regarding the the reason for referral. • Background Information & Consent Form: To be completed by parent/guardian. • Sensory Survey: Parent and teacher complete an online sensory survey. • Assessment: A comprehensive assessment - standardised tests completed with the child (approx. 2 hours - completed in 1or 2 sessions) • Report: The findings from the sensory survey and standardised tests are compiled into a detailed report. • Feedback Session: An online feedback session is held with parents/guardians to discuss the report and therapy options.
