I am an experienced Occupational Therapist and have worked in the NHS for over 10 years, working in a wide range of healthcare settings, including Rapid Response, community rehabilitation, and in-patient Stroke rehab. I continue to work as part of the NHS on a part time basis and so participate regularly in a multi-disciplinary team. I have a great deal of experience working in the community supporting people to maintain their independence and engage in their activities of daily living safely and successfully.
Interventions include practical advice, specialist rehabilitation, equipment and aids, home adaptations, falls prevention, seating and postural management, cognitive assessments, discharge planning, and support and guidance for carers/ families. I work with adults of all ages, but specialise in elderly care. For example, giving advice on how to care for someone with cognitive impairment or dementia, and guidance around planning for the future, adapting the home, and local activities or classes to encourage stimulation.
Starting my own practice, Avon Community Therapists, has enabled me to provide truly high-quality, holistic and timely therapy in people’s own homes. This input is crucial in keeping people active, healthy, and being able to participate and enjoy life. I believe that consistency of care, honesty, and being person-centred are the most important standards in healthcare, which is at the forefront of the practice.
