I have fourteen years experience working in the NHS and in social care. I have worked in hospitals and community and have experience of all aspects of occupational therapy relating to long-term conditions, physical disability, stroke and neurological conditions. In addition I am equally experienced working with people following surgery, who are frail or elderly, with alcohol-related conditions, with learning disability, or dementia and with mental health issues including anxiety, borderline personality disorder and with people who have hoarding problems. I provide comprehensive functional assessments of all aspects of daily living, such as transfers, bathing, showering, personal care, kitchen activities, access to leisure or work and getting around the home or garden. Following the assessment I provide one or more of the following as appropriate; general advice, rehabilitation, recommendation of specialist equipment or advice on home adaptations. I can source any equipment and can arrange for demonstration. In addition I can arrange for the completion of minor adaptations through a fully insured local handy person. I provide advice on major adaptations from wet rooms or kitchen adaptation to home extension as required. I have experience of working with people with complex seating needs and will provide assessment and sourcing of suitable chairs including a demonstration of their use. I have in depth experience of supporting people with learning disability to access work, college and leisure and to develop their daily living skills. I provide reports to support appeals for Blue Badge or Personal Independence Payments.
