Richard a highly experienced, senior Occupational Therapist and Clinical Lead. He graduated in 2010 with a BSc Honours degree in Occupational Therapy. Prior to training to be an OT, Richard had a diverse career in Banking, Finance, IT and Graphic Design.

Richard has work in the public social care sector, various NHS services and NHS commissioned services within the private sector. He has worked with children and adults presenting with a range of physical disabilities including complex postural needs, neurological – brain/cognitive, musculoskeletal, rheumatological, cancer, MND, frailty and obesity.

Additionally, Richard has worked with older adults in mental health settings presenting with Dementia, Depression and other long term mental health conditions. Richard has worked as a Clinical Lead OT, managing a team of therapists and engineers, running training and supervising both qualified and non-qualified staff.

Richard has significant experience in assessment for basic and complex equipment (including mobility seating and postural management), moving and handling, housing adaptations, environmental control technology and assessment of motor and processing skills. He is particularly skilled in providing advice on a range of equipment needs to clients with complex physical and neurological disabilities and has a particular passion in posture management and providing mobility solutions to enable function and independence

Richard is committed to enhancing his clients’ independence and participation in life and is well practised in identifying areas in need of functional improvement and interventions to support said improvement collaboratively with clients, their families and other services.

Richard has over 13 years’ experience working with patients who have: Spinal cord injury (both complete and incomplete injures). Brain injury. Amputees. Chronic neurological conditions, eg Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Musculoskeletal issues. Motor Neurone Disease Cerebral Palsy Stroke Dementia Depression Frailty

Richard has a relaxed and calm approach, ensuring that his clients and their families feel confident working with him. He engages therapeutically with his clients and their families to build a positive relationship built on trust and understanding. He adopts an empathetic approach and uses therapeutic use of self as well as his skills, knowledge and experience to overcome challenging situations.
