I am an experienced Children’s OT and believe that every child can overcome obstacles to enhance their independence, carrying out everyday activities and accessing their everyday environments.
Having worked for 21 years with children, their families and keyworkers across the UK and Germany, I’ve gained a wealth of expertise assessing and treating children who show difficulties with sensory processing, interoceptive awareness, self-regulation, attention, fine/gross motor coordination and visual-motor integration. I am addressing these development foundations in a functional context to improve skills (eg play, dressing, feeding, sleep, personal hygiene, handwriting, PE, social-emotional and cognitive skills). Enabling children to take an active role in the process will support their development of self and help them to grow into a confident individual.
We all learn better when we are having fun! For a child to get immersed in an activity, I emphasise on making tasks fun and meaningful. At the forefront of my intervention and goal setting is always the child/family and their participation in everyday life. To achieve this, I apply a mix of different therapy approaches and tools I have acquired during my career.
A child’s home or school/nursery are typical environments where I would see a child, to ensure an easy transfer of skills into their everyday routines. The family, teachers and other professionals are a vital part in my involvement, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to support the child further along their journey.
