Marys practice focuses on empowering people to manage their psychological symptoms to minimise the impact of symptoms on day-to-day activities and relationships. This is done with a focus on roles and the routines of self-care, leisure, rest and productivity.
Mary integrates strategies from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, self compassion and sensory techniques alongside theoretical models of human occupation.
Mary specialises in working with people with bipolar disorder, informed by over a decade of working alongside young people and working age adults with complex needs. She has worked as both an occupational therapist and educator in the fields of bipolar disorder, forensics, learning disabilities, eating disorders, and child and adolescent mental health. This experience has developed her understanding of the complexities of human experience and a therapeutic stance that is collaborative, non-judgemental, and flexible.
Mary has developed interests in patient and carer experience, quality improvement and clinical ethics.
Mary is an RCOT (Royal College of Occupational Therapists) and HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered occupational therapist.
