Keri has been working as a highly specialist Occupational Therapist in orthopaedics since 2016. Over this time she has expanded her knowledge and skills relating to multiple orthopaedic injuries. She has had the opportunity to develop her skills in frailty, working alongside the orthogeriatric team, supporting in the completion of comprehensive geriatric assessments.
Keri has developed a passion for humeral fractures, working closely with the upper limb surgeons, taking the lead with fitting humeral braces for mid shaft humeral fractures. Keri has run multiple training sessions for staff across the hospital regarding humeral fracture management and the fitting and management of humeral braces.
Keri was the OT department manual handling rep, leading the statutory and mandatory annual manual handling sessions. Keri has extensive knowledge and experience of complex manual handling of patients with frailty and/or orthopaedic injuries.
Working on the acute wards within the NHS a large proportion of Keri’s job is discharge planning. This involves assessment of the patients function and provision of aids and/or adaptations at home. Keri ensures the patient has an assessment of their care needs and that onward referrals are made to source this care.
She is all too aware of the limitations of the NHS and this has been the main force behind her decision to move into private practice – to support clients to achieve the maximum independence possible in activities which are meaningful to them.
Experience includes: Various fractures; Fitting and management of braces/orthosis; Elective joint replacement; Ortho-geriatrics/frailty; Manual handling aids; Home adaptations
