BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
Katy is a specialist children’s neuro-occupational therapist. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy at McGill University in Montreal (Canada) in 2002, where she is from. In 2005, Katy moved to the UK. She furthered her education by obtaining a Masters in Neurology Occupational Therapy from Coventry University in 2015. Fluent in both French and English, Katy is adept at providing therapy and support to children and families from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Katy honed her skills working with children with cerebral palsy at the renowned Bobath Centre in London. She further developed her expertise while working at a specialist hospital in London, where she gained valuable skills working alongside a neuro-disability consultant and being actively involved in the Botulinum-Toxin and upper limb movement therapy clinic.

Katy has extensive experience working within the NHS, private and charity sectors in the UK and abroad. This diverse background has equipped her with a wide range of skills in assessment and treatment across all age groups. Katy is fully aware and understands the impacts and limitations of the different healthcare systems and this is one of the reasons Wonder Years Children’s Therapy was founded… to offer a quality service and implement effective therapy: at the right time (early), the right way (meaningful, fun, the right challenge), with the right frequency (intensity that is right for you and our child), and the right content (focusing on the right goals) to make a real difference!

Katy is deeply committed to delivering a holistic approach to therapy, where she tailors assessment, report writing and strength-based interventions to meet the unique needs and priorities of each family, placing occupation at the centre (yes play and having fun is an occupation!), that is meaningful to ensure the child can thrive and actively participate in their environment. Sessions are conducted in settings that best suit the needs of the family, baby, and child. This could be at home, nursery, school, parks, clubs, or even in the community centre pool! She believes in supporting both parents and children, and the importance of considering both task and environment in facilitating learning and development. Katy is also dedicated to supporting children in nursery and school environments. She provides education and training to staff, ensuring that everyone involved understands how to best support the child’s needs.

Additionally, Katy works with case management companies in cases involving litigation. Katy is skilled in assessing and supporting postural needs and recommending appropriate equipment. Katy is proficient in assessing and supporting access and skill development using assistive technology, such as switches and eye gaze systems. She also specialises in supporting functional vision for those with cortical visual impairment. Katy also provides support, coaching and advice on how to best support daily activities. Her comprehensive skill set, and commitment ensure that individuals receive tailored support to enhance their quality of life.
