Katie qualified in 1998 from Dorset House School of Occupational Therapy in Oxford. She initially completed rotations in elective orthopaedics, stroke rehabilitation, trauma, orthopaedics, and acute medicine. During this time she successfully completed a Post Registration Development in the OT Management of Neurological Conditions course through Leicester University. She later worked dynamically within the acute trauma and orthopaedic wards of a large acute hospital. She gained experience of working with adult and elderly trauma patients, as well as acute brain injury patients with additional trauma injuries and needs. Katie also has experience of working within A&E, fracture clinic, and medical admissions. Katie has also worked within neuro rehabilitation, gaining experience of inpatient, outpatient and community based rehabilitation.

In addition to her medical based experience Katie has worked in Social Services which enables her to have an understanding of eligibility criteria and what aids, equipment and minor/major adaptations are available via both statutory and private services.

She has also been a Disability Assessor, assessing clients who have applied for the Personal Independence Payment benefit. She has assessed clients with both mental health and physical impairments, writing detailed but succinct reports for the Department of Work and Pensions.

Since 2007 Katie has worked as a Case Manager holding a case load of adolescent and adult clients who had sustained trauma, and acquired brain injury. She has overseen the rehabilitation of the clients, resourcing, and engaging the services of interdisciplinary teams.
