I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1997 and have developed a wide range of experience working in different areas of rehabilitation and implementing rehabilitation programmes for individuals with complex needs and multiple pathologies. I have spent most of my career developing my skills and knowledge base within neurological rehabilitation; providing specialist assessment and intervention for adults and adolescents who have suffered a neurological event or illness. Over the course of my career, I have acquired the knowledge and experience in assessing complex cognitive, physical, and behavioural needs, and implementing and monitoring individual treatment programmes, focussing on those areas specific to the client such as fatigue management, and vocational rehabilitation. Over the years my practice within neurological rehabilitation has enabled me to develop my knowledge and experience in intervention therapies used with treating associated disorders that result from experiencing severe trauma, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. I also have the knowledge and experience of the assessment and treatment of complex physical conditions, such as Spinal Injury, Motor Neuron Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Guillain Barre Syndrome, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, upper limb, and back injuries, as well as amputees. Before becoming an independent practitioner, I was the team leader / coordinator for the Neuro Rehabilitation Unit at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in Rochester, Kent, and have experience of the management of therapists and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
