Jenny Carey's profile

Jenny Carey Advanced Practitioner in Sensory Integration, PG Diploma in Sensory Integration, BSc Hons. Occupational Therapy

SwingFun Occupational Therapy

I have 25+ years of experience working with children and young people. Since graduating from University of Brighton with BSc. (Hons) degree in Occupational Therapy in 2016, I have worked in educational establishments and private practice before opening SwingFun Occupational Therapy in Lewes, East Sussex.

SwingFun Occupational Therapy has a designated clinic with suspended equipment that supports the development of sensory integration for children (2-18yrs) using the Ayres Sensory Integration® approach. I have studied the Ayres Sensory Integration® approach at post grad level with Ulster University (SI level 1 & 2) & Sheffield Hallam University (SI level 3 & 4).

I also coordinate the Sensory Integration Network Regional group for Sussex for professionals using sensory integration. I have a special interest in DLD (Developmental Language Disorder).

I believe children and young people are best supported when they are motivated. Through building a therapeutic relationship with clients and their families, I support children and young people to achieve their goals, whilst developing skills for everyday living and learning.

Testimonials: Jenny has worked with both my children over the last year on co-ordination, sensory processing, organisational and handwriting skills. She is a great listener (to children and parents) and is sensitive to the individual needs of each child, planning clear and relevant therapy goals for each child’s needs. She quickly established a rapport with my kids and is encouraging and engaging, helping them to develop confidence and independence. She is very thorough in her assessment and sets achievable and fun home practice activities. (Parent)

Jenny is a brilliant OT. Her sessions were always fun and engaging for our 7 year old son who was in the process of being diagnosed with mild dyspraxia. Jenny quickly built up a picture of our son's key needs and put a programme together whereby we could measure his progress. (Parent)

My son started seeing Jenny when he was 8 and we continued seeing her for just over a year. He is now 9 and has come on leaps and bounds with her support. I feel that Jenny has gone above and beyond what a normal therapist would offer. She has supported me and my son with so much, such as liaising with his school, phone calls to me in between sessions and support with getting a hospital appointment for him. She has also lent us great books and equipment to use at home and her sessions have been fun and enjoyable. She has given us invaluable advice and knowledge so he can carry on making progress. My son has Sensory Processing difficulties and suspected Dyspraxia, (Jenny’s thorough assessment discovered this). My son had a difficult time with anxiety and Jenny was very understanding of how this hindered some of the activities he could do. Thanks to Jenny, he can now ride a bike (his biggest achievement), tie shoe laces, has improved balance, stronger core muscles and he is now a more confident, happy child! (Parent)
