Jackie O'Connell's profile

Jackie O'Connell BSc (Hons) OTPG Cert Sensory IntegrationAttended initial Sensory Attachment Integration course

JOOT

A key aspect of my role is ensuring the individual feels safe when entering the room and is happy to try different activities. I use humour frequently and spent a lot of my time sitting on the floor with individuals working at their level. I take cues for intervention from the child's own interests and ensure that I not only listen to their words but take note of non-verbal cues regarding their feelings about the activities. This is important with all clients but particularly those with a history of trauma and attachment difficulties. Sessions are often adapted from the original plan to reflect the needs and feelings of the child on the day. I generally work with children, adolescents and young adults, who experience sensory processing difficulties, and / or have one or more of the following: a diagnosis of ASD; ADHD; developmental disabilities; dyspraxia; mental health concerns; offering sensory based approaches, to help them to cope and engage in everyday tasks. I complete assessments to determine needs and can then provide recommendations or further intervention to enable people to gain skills, and / or cope with difficult sensory stimulus, or help them to learn strategies to deal with uncomfortable and difficult emotions. Testimonial: We have found Jackies sessions have massively helped our daughter & us, understand the complexities of SPD. Shes incredibly knowledgeable, professional & kind. Shes made a such a positive impact on our daughters life & she really looks forward to her sessions with her.
