I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2006 and have worked in the paediatric setting for the past 17 years. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and I am a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists including the Children, Young People and Families, and Independent Practice communities. I have worked with children and families with a wide range of needs, enabling me to develop a well rounded knowledge of paediatric therapies. Although I relish supporting children and their families of all ages and needs, my passion for therapy lies in the area of Early Years Complex Needs.
I worked within the NHS for over 17 years and more recently I have worked for a charity supporting children aged 0-5 with cerebral palsy. I completed the Foundation Bobath Training course in 2013, which has been instrumental in enabling me to develop specialist handling and positioning skills, which is essential for children with complex physical needs to enable optimal functional development.
I have extensive experience in assessing, setting up and adjusting specialist seating for children with complex needs. I also have experience in recommending specialist bathing and toileting equipment, as well as other small aids and adaptations to support function.
I am able to offer assessment within the home setting or within a nursery/school setting – wherever is deemed most appropriate. I can also support with EHCP assessments. I also offer intervention sessions working towards specific functional goals led by the child and their family, which are reviewed regularly.
Effective communication is key and I enjoy working with or alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Linking with other professionals involved in your child’s care is essential to ensure that we are working on compatible goals and providing the most effective input possible.
