Having worked as an OT in the NHS and private sector – in outpatient and inpatient for Child and Adolescent Mental Services (CAMHS) and adult mental health settings - for 20+ years; I now work within private practice providing support to young people (10-25 yrs) experiencing low mood, anxiety, and low self-esteem. My core belief is in ‘doing’ and how best to support the young person to problem solve through their own routines, motivations, environment and skills so as to be who they want to be. I believe that building strong relationships underpins all the therapeutic work I do and allows the young person to make changes at their own pace.
Many young people (nb since lockdown) have become increasingly anxious and struggled with a lack of routine and structure; others (nb those with neurodevelopmental challenges) have found attending school more difficult.
I can assess and recommend strategies to manage sensory challenges, emotional regulation and self-care at school, home and in the community; and help the young person link with community activities and longer-term support.
I can help with developing a routine/structure, independent living skills, linking with community activities, managing emotions, organisational skills, and transitions (nb in education); and can advocate on the young person’s behalf and attend meetings with education and community agencies.
I prefer to work face-to-face (at home or in therapy rooms) but can offer online sessions.
