After qualifying from Brunel University, London, in I have had a diverse career, working within community and hospital settings, both statutory and non-statutory. I have held positions in numerous clinical fields to include social services, mental health, learning disabilities, rheumatology, paediatrics, neurology, head injuries, stroke rehabilitation, general medicine, older persons care, wheelchair therapy, and moving and handling training.
I can provide specialist initial assessment of baseline abilities, and can complete standardised and non-standardised assessments, develop treatment plans and involve clients in setting achievable goals. Case management includes writing care plans for moving and handling and rehabilitation techniques for the multi-disciplinary team and family, along with detailed reports for ongoing services.
As a moving and handling key trainer, I have delivered varied training to staff, advising on risk assessment and solution based handling plans. I offer advice for discharge planning, to include clients with amputees, looking at their home environment, completing risk assessments and addressing the specific needs and wishes of the client. This has included specialist seating, wheelchairs, hoisting and pressure care.
Whilst working in the community, I have provided advice on minor and major adaptations to properties and given recommendations on equipment for people with varying levels of disabilities. I have also been involved in long term rehabilitation, assessing and facilitating those wishing to access work and leisure interests, and providing upper limb rehabilitation.
