Alison is a highly specialist Occupational Therapist with over 20 years of paediatric experience in Canada and England. Her independent practice focuses on: major and minor adaptations, specialist equipment, moving and handling for children and young adults, and 1:1 therapy sessions for clients with catastrophic injuries ( including spinal cord) and medical negligence clients.
Alison is passionate about adapting environments to promote independence. She is experienced in working with a wide range of children and teens with complex needs including (but not limited to): ABI, Spinal cord injuries, Cerebral Palsy and Autism.
Alison offers person centred assessments in the home / school and provides comprehensive reports. She has strong links with specialist equipment companies and can support sourcing appropriate equipment for her clients (from ceiling track hoists, ramps, and lifts to shower chair and slings) and ensuring the client's needs are met.
Alison keeps current with her professional development by attending workshops and courses on a regular basis.
Alison enjoys working with case managers and an MDT to best meet the needs of children with catastrophic injuries.
Alison is also passionate about writing OT reports in support of DFG grants for children living in Surrey.
Alison also works as an OT within a children's social care team with a complex caseload where she assesses children's needs for adaptations, equipment and moving and handling. Her work in the public sector compliments her private work and ensures she is up to date with clinical guidelines and legislation in the public sector.
