April Barram's profile

April Barram

A holistic and client-centred approach is an occupational therapy value that I hold to strongly and deem essential to my practice. I initially gained experience in case management and then working in the community with a focus on preventing falls and hospital admissions.

On moving to the UK, I initially worked namely with older adults and I discovered my passion especially for neurological rehabilitation. A neurological injury or illness can often feel devastating and it is a privilege to be able to help people who are often at their most vulnerable. Everyone's journey is unique and I always approach clients with this in mind.

My experience and knowledge is quite broad, however my specialism is neurological rehabilitation with a special interest in functional neurological disorders and those with mental health comorbidities. I am also experienced working with significant cognitive and behavioural needs and complex risk assessment. I am also work with individuals with incomplete spinal cord injury and lower limb amputee rehabilitation, as well as complex posture and seating assessments. My extensive upper limb experience includes functional electrical stimulation, Saebo and basic splinting. I can also work with individuals or organisations on falls prevention, equipment prescription and home adaptations to promote independent and safe community living.

I am happy working on my own or with an MDT or case manager. I can also complete a one-off OT needs assessment and report. I work either face-to-face or via zoom (or similar).

In addition to my private work, I am also currently working in acute oncology, which has been extremely rewarding.
