I moved to the UK from Ireland to complete my OT degree. During my first post in London in 2010, I covered care of elderly, falls service, A&E, infectious diseases, general medicine, cardiology and acute neurology. I met many courageous people facing some very difficult times in their lives and learned how a skilled OT can offer them valuable support. Following this I then started a senior position at LNWH where I worked in the A&E and community rehabilitation teams. My experience was extended further when I moved to work at the Royal Free Hospital. I joined a rotation which covered hand therapy, liver transplant, palliative care and at times amputees. In 2014 I joined The Wellington Hospital, the largest private rehabilitation hospital in the UK, where I specialised in neurology. I worked with a wide range of neurological conditions both traumatic and progressive. I started to work with SCI clients from the UK and abroad and I supported with the development of the spinal unit there. To date I’ve had the opportunity to extend my training and education to home assessment for minor&major adaptations, complex 24 hour posture & positioning assessment & treatments, Constraint Induced Movement Therapy, mirror therapy, 6&12 channel FES bike, splinting, functional based retraining for SCI and fatigue management.
