SSIP look before you leap

business start-up workshop

For course dates and links to Eventbrite pages for bookings, please see our EVENTS webpage.

This one-day business start-up training course is endorsed by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and aimed at occupational therapists who are either considering the leap into, or new to, independent practice. The workshop is led by an established independent occupational therapist and draws upon their experience, as well as that of other independent practitioners who have made the leap. It will provide a broad understanding of the practical aspects of business start-up and the opportunity to explore the rewards and challenges that it brings.

At the end of the workshop delegates will have:

  • discovered the personal and business skills required for confident business start-up
  • explored how other occupational therapists have approached independent practice and applied different models of success
  • appraised the factors that impact on achieving a healthy cash flow
  • identified the practical requirements for managing finances
  • summarised the legal requirements for business start-up
  • recognised the value of developing good customer relations
  • had the opportunity to reflect on their personal situation and to determine whether independent practice is for them
